The judgment is "a pretty good thing for the UK in general and northern European countries who have been pressing for more action on the benefits question," said John Springford, an economist at the Centre for European Reform in London. While the case has highlighted the tension between the fundamental right to life and dignity and EU regulations governing welfare access, "the court found in favor of the regulation," Mr. Springford said.
